Stem Cells

Stem Cells

Jake Ames, MD, HMD

Stem cells are cells that have the ability to repair dying and diseased tissues and rejuvenate all tissues and organs.

Many companies obtain their stem cells from placental cord blood.  The placenta and its cord blood are rich in stems cells of the hematopoietic line, which produces all blood cell types including eosinophils, neutrophils, lymphocytes, basophils, monocytes and red blood cells.

Umbilical cord blood has been used to replace bone marrow stem cells in certain leukemias after the patient has had his bone marrow totally irradiated and given chemotherapy.

The placenta also contains mesenchymal stem cells, which are able to differentiate into different tissues including bone, nerves, cartilage, muscle, liver, kidneys, etc.  This is why placental tissue is now being used more than cord blood, and it is also immunologically well tolerated.

The consumer must be well informed where the stem cells originated.  Some questions to ask:

What is the source of your stem cells?  What percentages of your stem cells are alive?  Are the stem cells FDA approved?  Has an independent lab analyzed them?  Have they been checked by flow-cytometry to be real stem cells?  How long have you been in business?  What cell-lines do your stem cells differentiate into?  What is the cost of your treatment?  Can other patients who have had your stem cells contact me?  If they say this is confidential, this is nonsense.  They can call one of their patients and ask them to call you.  Ask them, how more effective are your stems cells for treating my condition than platelet-rich-plasma (PRP).  Oftentimes the growth factors in PRP will be enough, and they are much cheaper.

I prefer to put patients on urine fasting than have them receive stem cells.  Urine fasting will increase stem cells, telomere length and human growth hormone.  The urine contains over 2,500 beneficial substances.  See my blogs on urine therapy.
